Enjoy a round of Disc Golf at the McNair Park Disc Golf Course located in St. Charles, Missouri!

The Course at McNair Park

Disc golf is a popular sport around the country and there are several courses throughout the St. Charles County area.  In the City of St. Charles, disc golfers can come together to play the sport recreationally at McNair Park. The course was originally established in 2024.

The McNair Park Disc Golf Course is a 18 hole course.  9 holes are more out in the open park land and 9 holes are located in the the wooded, hilly area of McNair Park. There is a practice / warm up basket located adjacent to the parking lot and you can find Tee 1 just next to it (in the location of the old McNair Aquatic Facility).

The course features concrete paver tee pads, signs, and  Gateway Disc Sports targets. The back 9 of the course is heavily wooded and plants and mulch cover the ground off of the paths. Paths can be muddy during the rainy season.

The Course Designer and Installer

The course was designed and built by David McCormack who is the founder of Gateway Disc Sports.  As of this writing, David has designed and installed over 100 disc golf courses, with several more currently in the works. He has played over 1060 different courses, and was one of the first inductees into the Missouri Disc Golf Hall of Fame in 2016.

Gateway Disc Sports began molding its own discs in 1999 with the release of the Sabre in S (Sure Grip) plastic and became well known around the world in 2002 with its ever-popular putter, the Wizard, which many still consider the greatest disc of all time.

Gateway was also one of the first to produce wide-winged drivers that could resist fierce headwinds — the Speed Demon and Spirit In durable Evolution plastic. Today Gateway Disc Sports boasts over 32 PDGA Approved golf disc models, which the company produces in three blends of plastic: Diamond, Platinum and Sure Grip. Its main putter plastic, Sure Grip, is available in a broad range of flexibilities and surface textures. Its putter line continues to rank near the top in both performance and popularity.

What is Disc Golf?

From Professional Disk Golf Association (PDGA):
Disc golf is played much like golf. Instead of a ball and clubs, though, players use a flying disc or Frisbee®. The sport was formalized in the 1970s and shares with golf the object of completing each hole in the fewest strokes (or, in the case of disc golf, the fewest throws).

A golf disc is thrown from a tee area to a target, which is the “hole.” The hole can be one of a number of disc golf targets; the most common is an elevated metal basket. As a player progresses down the fairway, he or she must make each consecutive throw from the spot where the previous throw landed. The trees, shrubs, and terrain changes located in and around the fairways provide challenging obstacles for the golfer. Finally, the “putt” lands in the basket and the hole is completed.

How to Play?

Equipment:
Disc Golf Discs – Beginner packs typically include a driver, a mid-range, and a putter.
Pants and full coverage shoes recommended for this course due to brush conditions.

Objective of the Game:
Disc Golf is played like traditional golf. One throw is counted each time the disc is thrown. The goal is to play each hole in the fewest strokes possible. The player with the lowest total strokes for the entire course wins. The hole is completed when the disc comes to rest in a disc golf basket.

How to Play:

  1. Start at the first Tee. Your first throw for each hole will begin at the Tee, subsequent throws will be from wherever your disc lands. Throw the disc toward the basket labeled 1.
  2. The goal is to get the disc into the basket with the least number of throws. Advance through each hole (1 through 18) starting on the Tees and finishing in the baskets. The player with the least amount of strokes on the previous hole is the first to tee off on the next hole.
  3. Follow the signage to locate the next tee.
